César Roig Espí is a Spanish trombonist currently serving as Principal Trombone of the National Symphony Orchestra of SODRE in Montevideo, Uruguay, and as a professor within the National Youth Orchestra System of Uruguay.
He has developed a solid career combining his orchestral position with an active international presence as a soloist, performer, and educator.
As an orchestral musician, he has collaborated with leading ensembles such as the London Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble InterContemporain, the Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra (ORTVE), the Gran Teatre del Liceu Orchestra in Barcelona, the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, and the Vallès Symphony Orchestra. Throughout these experiences, he has worked with renowned conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Alan Gilbert, Matthias Pintscher, and Sir Neville Marriner.
His artistic development has been enriched through participation in prestigious institutions and academies such as the Lucerne Festival Academy, Lucerne Festival Alumni, the Orchestral Academy of the Granada City Orchestra, and the Internationale Junge Orchesterakademie (IJOA), as well as projects including the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra and the Neue Philharmonie München.
As a soloist, he has performed with ensembles such as the SODRE Youth Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra of Paraguay, in addition to presenting recitals in Spain and Uruguay and premiering works written specifically for him.
He completed his studies at the Conservatory of Aragón under the guidance of Ximo Vicedo and Daniel Perpiñán, and furthered his training at the STOMVI Trombone Academy in Madrid and at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Andrea Conti.
Deeply committed to education, he has been invited as a faculty member at international festivals such as the Alfredo de Saint Malo International Festival and Trombonanza. In 2026, he will be a guest artist at the Alfredo Santacoloma International Band Festival (Colombia), Trombonanza (Argentina), and Trombontepec (Mexico).
Alongside his performing career, he is also active as a composer, having been awarded First Prize at the Trombonanza Composition Competition (Santa Fe, Argentina) in both 2023 and 2024 for his works for trombone.
