Ulises Nájera, a versatile trombonist and composer, is at home in a variety of ensembles. Whether performing in jazz bands, chamber music, symphony orchestras, rock/ska bands, pop music, or as a soloist, Ulises is one of the most featured tenor and bass trombonists in México City.
He is founder, producer, composer, and arranger for several projects, including Trombotones, Slide Salsa, Fake Bone, MX Big Band, La Petit Band, and Sonido Trombonero y Ska de Acâ.
In 2014, Trombotones were awarded fourth prize in Concurso de Música y Diseño, organised by the National Conseil for Art and Culture (CONACULTA) and El Circo Volador. That same year, they were nominated for the Premios de la Música Independiente de España as Best Artist of the Year in México. The band has recorded two studio albums: Trombotones Presenta (2014) and Baladas Vol. 1 (2018). They also recorded a live session in 2016. Fake Bone shared fourth place in Concurso de Música y Diseño (2014), organised by the National Conseil for Art and Culture (CONACULTA) and El Circo Volador.
In 2019, Ulises was musical director, trombonist, and arranger for pop singer Karol Sevilla during the Que se Pare el Mundo Tour. In 2010, he co-premiered Julio Estrada’s Cúpula y Bóveda for bass and tenor trombones with legendary trombonist Gustavo Rosales.
In 2007, Ulises ws awarded a student exchange scholarship to attend and study at Académie de Musique Rainier III in Mónaco, Montecarlo. As a composer and arranger, Ulises has a fairly extensive portfolio that includes works for solo instruments, chamber groups, symphony orchestras, big bands, jazz combos, salsa orchestras, and popular music groups.
