Sergio Manteiga is currently the second trombonist of the Basque National Orchestra (Spain). He was born in 2005 in Poulo (A Coruña, Spain).
He began his studies in 2013 with Esteban Méndez, Co-Principal Trombonist of the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. In 2021, he was admitted to the Advanced Academy of Music of Galicia, where he studied with Jon Etterbeek, Principal Trombonist of the Galician Symphony Orchestra.
In September 2023, he began his Bachelor studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Jörgen van Rijen, Principal Trombonist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra; Pierre Volders, Principal Trombonist of the Rotterdam Philarmonic Orchestra; and Remko de Jager, Co-Principal Trombonists of the Rotterdam Philarmonic Orchestra.
Throughout his career, he has been selected for various youth orchestras, such as the Verbier Festival Youth Orchestra (VFJO) and the Galician Symphony Youth Orchestra (OJSG).
Since April 2024, he has performed as Second Trombonist in the Basque National Orchestra with maestro Robert Trevino.
