Pere Navarro

Spanish Trumpet Artist

Pere Navarro, trumpet player, pianist, composer, and producer, is one of the brightest young talents in the Catalan and Spanish jazz scene. Navarro, originally from Ibiza, began his love affair with the trumpet at the age of 8. He began his music studies in the Balearic Islands and continued training at Taller de Musics in Barcelona.

Pere Navarro Quintet has released two albums on ‘Fresh Sound Records’. His debut album, Perenne, received a very positive response. His most recent record, Pere Navarro Quintet Live in Madrid, was recorded live at Recoletos Jazz, one of the most important jazz clubs in Spain. Jose Miguel Lopez, a leading jazz journalist at the Spanish National Radio, said this about the record:

“Any artist’s second album is an acid test. You are supposed to have given all of you on the first one. Pere has taken the hard way, recording a live album. That is usually done once you have released a few more records. Youth is daring and blessed be it! That is the only way for fearless and bold works to come out.

He picked the right venue and bandmates he trusts. And thus, this is a wonderful album. The atmosphere, popularly known as groove, is great. That’s where the secret lies. This is only the second step but… what a step!”

Navarro has performed at numerous esteemed venues across Spain including Palau de la Música Catalana, Jamboree Jazz, Recoletos Jazz, Jimmy Glass, Sunset Jazz Club, Nova Jazz Cava, La Bilbaína, El Plaza Jazz Club. He has also been part of the line up at festivals such as Barcelona International Jazz Festival, Vijazz Penedès, Menorca Jazz Festival, Canarias Jazz y Más, and Eivissa Jazz, where in 2016 he celebrated his 10th appearance the island’s festival.

His presence at the latest edition of Lugo’s Jazz Festival was of particular note. His sold-out concert was chosen by SGAE and Radio3 (Spanish National Radio) to be broadcast live from legendary club Sala Clavicémbalo for the concert cycle “#VivaLaMúsicaViva”. Pere Navarro Quintet was privileged to be the only Spanish jazz band selected for broadcast.

Pere is not only a great bandleader, he’s also a recognized sideman. He has played in bands such as Eva Fernández Group and the Original Jazz Orchestra (directed by David Pastor), amongst others. He has also played with musicians including Jorge Pardo or Joachim Kühn.
