A Wisconsin native, Matthew Onstad is Principal Trumpet with the Quad City Symphony Orchestra (IA, IL), and is currently on trial as Principal Trumpet with the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra (Columbus, OH). He is the Adjunct Trumpet Instructor of Trumpet at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, and a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at the University of Wisconsin Madison under the tutelage of Dr. Alex Noppe. Matthew serves the UW Mead Witter School of Music as a Project Assistant performing with the Wisconsin Brass Quintet, a faculty ensemble-in-residence, where they are regarded as one of the “superb brass ensembles in the USA” (Musicweb International) and praised for “remarkable musicianship and versatility” (International Trumpet Guild Journal). Matthew has been a member of the 132nd Wisconsin Army National Guard Band since 2012, and has performed with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Madison Symphony Orchestra, Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Iowa, Illinois Symphony Orchestra, and the Isthmus Brass.
An avid teacher throughout the Midwest, Matthew has served as a master clinician with the Wisconsin Brass Quintet, the 132nd Army Band, and the Quad City Symphony Orchestra in Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, and Minnesota. Matthew received his MM at UW Madison and his BM at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. His past teachers include John Aley, Marty Robinson, and Robert Levy.
Matthew is an Edwards Instrument Artist and Clinician.
