Dr. Evan Williams is a trombonist and educator currently serving as Assistant Principal Trombone in the National Symphony in Washington DC. Prior to this position, Evan was tenured as Principal Trombone for the Richmond Symphony for five years. Dr. Williams also served as Principal Trombone for the Central Texas Philharmonic, and Second Trombone for the Mid-Texas Symphony. In addition to these positions, Dr. Williams has played with several other orchestras including the Atlanta Symphony, and Williamsburg Symphony, and was guest principal with the Seattle Symphony on a program that included playing bass trumpet on Wagner’s Gotterdamerung.
Evan received his Bachelor’s in music from Columbus State University and Master’s and Doctorate degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. In 2019, Evan was invited to finals for the International Trombone Festival and was named winner of the ITF Alto Trombone Competition, Frank Smith Solo Competition, and the Lewis Van Haney Excerpt Competition. In the same year, Evan also won the Steven Zellmer Orchestral Trombone Competition after being a finalist in 2017, 2015, and 2013. In his free time, Evan enjoys rock climbing, painting, or staying home with his cat.
