César Fumero is a Costa Rican bass trombonist, educator, and arts administrator whose career bridges orchestral performance, chamber music, education, and cultural leadership. Since 2017, he has served as Bass Trombonist of the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica, performing under internationally renowned conductors and soloists. He is also a member of Trombones of Costa Rica, one of the country’s leading brass ensembles, and has appeared as a guest artist and clinician throughout the Americas.
Committed to musical education and artistic development, Fumero joined the faculty of Costa Rica’s National Institute of Music (Instituto Nacional de la Música) in 2024. His pedagogical work has included masterclasses, lectures, and performances at institutions such as Stanford University, University of Central Florida, Texas Tech University, Texas A&M University–Kingsville, and the University of Nevada, Reno.
Fumero holds a Master of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Costa Rica. In addition to his performing career, he has contributed to the development of Costa Rica’s musical ecosystem through leadership roles with Fundación SONAR and through the organization of international trombone festivals and educational initiatives.
As a performing artist, he has collaborated with conductors and musicians including Jahja Ling, Brett Mitchell, Giancarlo Guerrero, José Serebrier, Andrés Cárdenes, and Carl St. Clair. His work reflects a commitment to artistic excellence, education, and the promotion of Costa Rican musical talent on the international stage.
