Amanda Stewart
Acting Principal Trombonist, San Antonio Symphony
Born in Oakland, Maryland, Amanda Stewart began study on the
trombone at the young age of six. Her studies started with Harold
Hudnall and continued with Keith Jackson, Professor of Trombone
and Euphonium at West Virginia University. Receiving her Bachelor
of Music degree from the Juilliard School, Amanda studied with
Joseph Alessi, principal trombonist of the New York Philharmonic.
As a soloist, Amanda has performed twice with the Deep Creek
Symphony and also as a guest artist at the International Women's
Brass Conference. As an orchestral musician, Amanda has performed
with the National Repertory Orchestra, Music Academy of the West
Orchestra, the DiCapo Opera Theater Orchestra, the North Carolina
Symphony, and has been the acting principal trombonist with the
San Antonio Symphony since the fall of 2004. Initially in 2003,
Amanda was appointed the assistant principal/second position
with San Antonio Symphony. Since 2004, Amanda has also performed
frequently with the San Antonio Brass in large choir settings
and also as the trombonist in the symphony's brass quintet. Currently,
Amanda is an adjunct instructor at Our Lady of the Lake University
in San Antonio.
