Bowman Wins Fontana Competition… and a T302

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Eric BowmanLast month, Eric Bowman traveled to the International Trombone Festival in Aarhus, Denmark in order to take part in the ITA’s Carl Fontana Jazz Trombone Competition. He beat out the other talented finalists and won his very own Edwards T302. Eric is a student at Western Michigan University where he studies with Scott Cowan and Steve Wolfinbarger.

A little over a week ago, Eric and his friends stopped by our shop so that I could fit him to one of our jazz horns. Working with talented young players like Eric always reminds me that I need to practice more. It also makes my job that much more rewarding.

A Message from Joseph Alessi

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I wanted to invite you to my recital program in Albuquerque, New Mexico as part of my seminar. (below) I am looking forward to working with all the students and hope that you can stop by for this free concert. We would like to encourage any of your students to attend the seminar as well. Peter Ellefson and Jon Whitaker will be assisting me with all of the teaching and coaching. There a few more auditor spots left. If you or someone would be interested in attending, please contact Jon Whitaker at alessiseminar (at) me (dot) com.

Late Show Trombones

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

We really enjoyed Diane Birch’s performance on David Letterman last night, not only because she’s a great singer, but also because she knows how to accessorize her band. Hopefully we’ll see more trombone quartets backing up vocalists!

The trombonists are Tom “Bones” Malone, Birch Johnson, Joseph Alessi and David Taylor.

Summer Special

Friday, July 17th, 2009

Summer Case SpecialDo you remember those tan Edwards travel cases we used to sell? We’re going to start selling them again because we recently found quite a few while going through our inventory.

If you purchase any T350(E), Alessi T396-A or B454(E), we can offer you one of these vintage-style travel cases at cost. That’s $170 for tenor and $175 for bass. When these cases are gone, the sale is over. We still have our current cases and gig bags for sale, but if you’re a fan of tan, give Cathy a call to place your order:

Adios, IE6

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

Our web site will soon be undergoing a major facelift. We’re excited about the change and a little overwhelmed with all the work left to do. Ron has been busy taking new instrument shots, Christan has been working on content, and I have been comping and coding late into the night.

With all the work that goes into building a site, we’ve decided that we can no longer support IE6, a browser that was released over 8 years ago. In that time, I’ve gotten married, had a kid, and lost a significant portion of my sanity while trying to get stuff to work in that browser. But I digress…

We strongly suggest you upgrade to a new browser that supports web standards. Here are a few we like:

Firefox (our favorite)
Safari
Chrome
Internet Explorer 8

If for some reason you can’t upgrade your browser (or use Firefox… hint, hint), don’t worry. You will still be able to view all the content our site has to offer. It just won’t look as pretty as it should.

Amanda Stewart Wins NY Phil Audition

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

We’re thrilled to announce that Amanda Stewart has won the New York Philharmonic associate principal trombone position. Amanda is currently the acting principal trombonist in the San Antonio Symphony.

Nathan Zgonc, also an Edwards artist, was the other finalist for the position.

Edwards Delivery Times

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

It’s not often we can deliver an instrument within a month’s time. But we can do just that after we recently hired more help. We are now at the point where we can deliver a trombone in 1-2 weeks if the bell is in stock. Trumpets take just a week or two longer.

This isn’t likely to last as we’ll get an influx of orders once school starts. Call me at 800.562.6838 to talk about options.
